• Students will be expected to submit a 10-15 page APA paper regarding one of the primary components of IDEA 2004. I am interested in free appropriate public education and the most important component that I want to focus on the vague about the interpretation of the word ‘appropriate’, which can differ widely among individuals. So what is ‘appropriate’ really supposed to mean in the context of special education programming?
• You are expected to read your state regulations (Colorado) that govern Special Education, the IDEA 2004 rules and regulations, and case law to support your topic area; start with supreme cases” foundation cases” , such as Rowley 1982. Address the most 15 important law cases in this topic “FAPE”.
• Your paper should present the federal and state law on your topic and provide a rich analysis of its implications on the field.
• The analysis should include court case analysis, as well as a rich discussion regarding the implications for educators, parents, and other relevant educational stakeholders.
• Grading will be based on the depth of resources used, ability to use law resources as research tools, an information provider and/or a strategy by which to convince the audience to think a particular way.
