The development of new theory has stagnated. Criminology has become a science of “number crunching” in

which statistical data is widely spoken of and criminal explanations based solely upon but no theories have

been developed. Criminology, in its early development, borrowed heavily from biological, psychological and

sociological theories. These theories were adapted to explain crime. In the modern era, with the growing

internet and the shrinking world, we have whole new lineages of crime that have been created. Theory has not

caught up. We are left with antiquated theories for the modern era.
