Students will be required to assess the financial performance of a company by calculating the financial ratios for at least the past two years using the company’s latest Annual Report (2014 or 2015 accounts if available) and to make comparisons with industry average figures.

Given that the latest Annual Report is already out of date by the time it is made available, students will be expected to show knowledge of the present and likely future environment within which the company operates. The completed coursework is to be in the form of a written report.

Relevant extracts from the annual report should be submitted with your written assignment such as chairman’s statement, management report, income statement, statement of financial position and statement of cash flow statement with notes to the accounts where appropriate.

Assignment Details
Read the company’s latest Annual Report (2014 or 2015 accounts if available) CAREFULLY. Then consider the following questions when writing a report which should analyse the financial reports and make a recommendation to the investor on what his or her best course of action would be with respect to that company’s shares. The student needs to invent the investor who might be looking for growth or income. The investor may already hold the shares or may be considering buying shares in the company.

1. Evaluate the business performance position based on the ratios you have identified as being relevant or significant. You need to calculate a comprehensive set of ratios for at least two years for your given company (anything less than 20 sets of ratios is not enough!). You should take the current state of global financial situation into account in your discussion. (The calculations of your ratios should be in an Excel file which MUST be submitted with your written assignment).
