Research one 20th century artist and write an essay describing his or her emergence as an artist, and analyzing at least 2 of his or her art works in depth. Your

essay should explain how the artist and work exemplifies trends in 20th century art and life.

You may choose any artist working between 1900-2000, and artworks made during the 20th century. The essay should be between 1500-1700 words in length, and show

evidence of at least 2 sources ofscholarly research (meaning academic journal articles and art history books besides the Arnason text).
