Case Study-
FORMATTING FOR PAPER:
Step 1: Introduction to the Paper
Provide an introduction to the paper and what you will be discussing. Why did you
choose this specific child or a child with this disability to research?  Did you learn
about the child from observations in a classroom, films, case studies, books, or other
sources?
Step 2.  THE CHILD AND HIS/HER DISABILITY TO BE CONSIDERED
Begin by describing the whole child. Provide the reader with a “picture” of the child,
along with the grade level and setting in which s/he is currently placed. Discuss the
child’s current level of functioning – including the child’s strengths, interests, and
challenges. Include these components:
A. Questions to Answer in Narrative form:
•    Who is this child? (Be sure to include answers such as:  How old is the child?
•    What is his developmental age?  What language does/ he / she speak? Who is
•    his/her family?  Other descriptions that tell us about this child’s
•    development).
•    What does he/she need to know?
•    What are the child’s interests?
•    How does this child learn?
B. Fill out pages 1-4  of the IEP form
Step 3.  How does the disability, concern, behavior,  or difference affect the child’s development
1. Describe how the disability, concern, behavior,  or difference might specifically affect progress in three areas of early childhood human development (motor, sensory, communication, social, behavioral, cognitive). How does his her development compare to “typical developmental patterns and milestones.” You may refer to your observations on the child and the research you have done.

2. What are the needs and accommodations that the child might need in the classroom?

3. What might be some possible behaviors or problems that the child might encounter in the future? This can be based off your research and observations.

Step 4.     CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT FOR CHILD
A . Provide an introduction to your curriculum plan
Looking at how your activities take into account the needs of the child as well as his/her interests and your long term goals for the child. Basically explain what you hope to accomplish for and  the child with these activities.
B. Develop actual curriculum activities for the child.
Using the curriculum guide form attached to this assignment, develop one activitiy in each of the following areas:
1. Social awareness (self esteem, inclusion and social studies)
2. Language and literacy (speaking, listening, reading, writing)
3. Health, physical education, and sensory motor skills
4. Discovery (math, science and technology)
5. Creative Arts (visual arts, music, creative movement and dramatic play)
Step 5.  CONCLUSION AND BIBIOGRAPHY
Write a conclusion to the paper that states what you have told us in the paper and why it is important.  Discuss: How will child be fully included in all the classroom activities?  If not possible, why?  What will you do to lessen stigma of difference on child? Draw a more universal “conclusion” about children with similar disabilities and the ability for them to be in an inclusionary classroom.  Write a bibliography that cites your sources for doing this assignment.
F. Bibliography (use MLA or APA formatting, see next page)
