Opinions and views of adolescents throughout the state of Minnesota

The researcher investigated the opinions and views of adolescents throughout the state of Minnesota and examined a range of nutrition-related topics. (1) We used a small group discussion format and qualitative survey methods, and polled 900 high school students. Data were analyzed using content analytic techniques. (2) In general, we found that adolescents were well informed about good health and nutrition practices, but they (3) didn’t translate this knowledge into food behaviors. Adolescents fell that there were many barriers to changing their dietary behaviors, specifically lack of time, lack of discipline, and lack of the sense of urgency. (4) We discuss the implication for nutrition education and designing programs aimed at changing adolescents’ dietary behaviors.
