Justification of route deviation due to prevailing weather

You are responsible for the management of a capesize bulker. Your ship loads a full Iron ore cargo in Dampier (Australia) on 26th February for delivery to Quingdao (China). The original route was through the Lombok Straits and to the East of Philippines. A large cyclone developed in the Pacific and is expected to pass across the Philippines. The master takes avoiding action and alters his route to utilise the Sunda Straits. This incurs a delay of 96 hours to arrival at Quingdao (China).
