Order Description

The Final Project will be a written discussion of your Genogram and Ecomap. It should be a minimum of 8-10 pages or as many more as you want/need to write to thoroughly cover what you have learned from your study. This final project is intended to have you contemplate, evaluate and discuss what you are learning from your genogram, ecomap, and from your study of the Family theories to which you are being introduced.
Family systems theory emphasizes that we are so much part and product of family that we will not understand ourselves without understanding our unique place in family and extended family (including church, community, culture). The “self of the therapist” is critical to the counseling relationship. And the self-knowledge that can come from this process of examination may be invaluable, even critical to becoming an effective helper of others.
What have you learned about your family and yourself? Looking at the list of issues in the genogram guides under Resources and Extras, and in the textbook you will evaluate your genogram and discuss how those concepts apply.
The best (A) papers will consider all the family system concepts you have been introduced to in your study of the various theories. Look through the textbook and online resources to refresh your memory of those concepts. Scan through the text for concepts that seemed to have application to your personal family experience. Apply those ideas to your discussion of your family.
Finally, discuss how you see your own family experience affecting the way you do therapy yourself – perhaps positively, possibly negatively.
