french sexuality
Order Description
Sameness as the basis of queer eroticism. Difference as the basis of queer eroticism. Colette and Yourcenar seem to be staging indirectly a debate about the nature of same-sex desire—a debate whose opposing terms were already in evidence several decades earlier in Proust’s Sodom and Gomorrah and Gide’s The Immoralist.
Your assignment is to write a cogent five-page double-spaced essay on two of the four works we’ve read in the last month (Proust, Gide, Colette, Yourcenar), reflecting on the ways that ideas of sameness and/or difference are used to make sense of sexual attractions (and, perhaps, repulsion). Does the gender of the writer matter in his or her representations of sameness or difference?
Once again, support your argument by drawing on evidence derived from the language of your two chosen works (that is, quote from the text a lot). Be as specific as you can in describing what the language is saying and doing.
use the book The pure and the impure by colette and the book Alexis by marguerite yourcenar.
