Effects of poverty on education

The Glass Castle deals with a host of inter-related issues (e.g. poverty, homelessness, substance abuse, sexual abuse, and mental health). As you read The Glass Castle during the first week of class pay attention for these issues and select one for the “term paper” assignment. Term Paper Assignment: Compile an annotated bibliography of at least ten resources related to the issue you have chosen. At least seven of these resources must be scholarly sources. Annotations should be original (i.e. do not simply copy the abstract or introduction). A one to two paragraph annotation will suffice. Due Friday June 19 at 5:00 pm. Write a researched thesis of 8 to 12 pages (approximate) synthesizing your resources to describe the issue and its prevalence, and to suggest ways to reduce its impact, especially among the poor in America. Particulars: You are particularly encouraged to include scholarly sources that approach the issue from perspectives relevant to your major (Education) and/or that approach the issue from religious perspectives. Grammar, spelling, paragraph structure and flow matter. You may use a style-sheet (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.) of your own choosing to format your papers and references. I will not check that references are in the proper form. However, you must acknowledge all of your sources in text and I must be able to use your bibliography to locate sources. So, they must contain all of the relevant information in a consistent format.
