Students are required to write a 12-14 page research paper. The 12-14 pages should be single-spaced,
12-point Times New Roman font, and have 1-inch margins. (This could also be 24-28 pages doublespaced).
Research proposals are due by Tuesday, March 3rd, 2015. Students must also meet with Professor Read
to discuss before this date. A research proposal template is included in this handout. This will be turned
in on Broncoboard.
The purpose of the paper is to take several concepts from this class and integrate them with knowledge
from your other coursework. You should also consider how the information will be useful to you in the
future. You should explore a topic (or area of a topic) you do not already know a great deal about (or
that you did not before this class).
Other than the page length requirement, the research paper should be within the following parameters:
1) The paper should use at least 10 sources, one of which can be the textbook. At least 3 of the
sources should be scholarly sources. I would expect that practitioner sources would also be
valuable.
2) The paper should incorporate at least three of the topics we have covered (or will cover) in this
class. This will require that you briefly look ahead through the chapters to see what sparks your
interest.
3) The paper should discuss relevant current issues related to your topic and to you personally –
whether it relates to your current status as a student or your future career plans.
4) If illustrations of any kind are included, they do not go towards the page count.
A draft of the paper is due Tuesday, March 31st, 2015 by noon. The draft must be submitted on
Broncoboard via the Turnitin dropbox. All the professor’s comments and feedback will be on the
Turnitin copy.
The final paper will be due Thursday, April 23rd, 2015 by noon. The paper must be submitted three
ways:
1) On Broncoboard via the assignment dropbox
2) On Broncoboard via the Turnitin dropbox
3) Manual copy submitted to the professor.
