Choose a current and widely publicized event related to a social problem, such as the British Petroleum oil spill in the Gulf. Analyze this social problem (causes and solutions) using each of the three major theoretical perspectives in sociology: structural functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. On the discussion board, summarize the social problem and how it relates to the current event. Then, describe how each theoretical perspective might explain the causes and suggest solutions to the social problem. Analyze these perspectives and identify which perspective you think best explains the social problem and why.
