Based on ELCC Standards, what are areas of personal/professional strength and areas for improvement?

  1. Description of the Assignment

This assignment prepares students to develop, implement, and steward a shared vision for learning.  Candidates create a vision in which they describe their current status, role, goals, and focus areas as school leaders.  This vision will serve as a working document that students will reconsider and revise as they move throughout the program and prepare to transition into the role of a practicing school leader.  As assigned in the introductory course, developing the vision statement is a two-part process.

  1. Part 1. Students will develop an Initial Vision Statement (5 points) – With little direction, candidates create a draft statement for serving as a school leader.  The questions guiding this initial statement are:
    1. Why do you want to be a school building administrator?
    2. What do you feel you can contribute to the field?
  • What stakeholders and issues do you believe that school administrators need to address?
  1. Based on ELCC Standards, what are areas of personal/professional strength and areas for improvement? (Students will review the standards and rank themselves on a 1-5 scale with 1 being “No Clue” and 5 being “No Problem.”
  1. Part 2. Reflecting and Reconsidering a Vision for School Leadership (20 points) – Near the end of the course, candidates will revise their vision statements based on the information provided in the survey course.  Candidates will receive directions specifically asking that they add, revise, and/or remove information based on the content covered throughout the course.  Candidates will also have access to the rubric, which will offer further details on what they should include in their vision statements.
