Directions PART I: Part I of the textbook examines community crime prevention planning, and crime risk management systems. Business owners, zoning ordinances, land use and development are just some of the areas that the CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) program covers. For this assignment: Examine your own communityâ s business and neighborhood land layout. (My community is Hughesville,MD) In a one to two­ page paper, identify key areas of development that may have been specially designed or developed to aid in the prevention of crime. Example: Does the community have physical barriers in front of specific businesses? Do certain businesses or homes have a special design, or landscaping to help prevent crime? Do certain businesses or homes have physical security systems that are visible to the public? Then, answer the following questions: A. Who should be involved in a CPTED project and why? B. Why is land development and land use important to physical and informational security? C. How does landscaping prevent crime? D. Why is it important to focus on access control for people with disabilities? How does this aid in the prevention of crime? E. In a conclusion statement, do you think your community is doing enough to prevent crime? Why/Why not?
