You are the Director of a newly commissioned museum focused on your city. (If you don’t live in or near a city, either choose a city you know about or focus on the area where you live.)

You are the Director of a newly commissioned museum focused on your city. (If you don’t live in or near a city, either choose a city you know about or focus on the area where you live.)

•Your new museum will have three wings, each devoted to one discipline’s perspective about and influence on your city.

•As Director, you will choose the three disciplines to be represented in the three wings.

•You will write a proposal to the city council that explains why you think each discipline deserves a wing.

To prepare for this assignment:
•Review the “Proposal Checklist” and “Disciplines Chart” handouts.

•Review the course readings that you feel support your ideas and are relevant to the disciplines you have chosen for your museum. Be prepared to cite your sources.

•Identify the three disciplines that have chosen to represent your city in the museum.

•Evaluate how each wing – i.e., disciplinary perspective – represents the character of the city.

•Determine what will fill each wing, such as objects, themes, ideas, or groups, to represent each discipline.

•Explain why the objects, themes, ideas, or groups you have chosen represent each discipline and how that discipline is important to the city.

•Evaluate how your museum embodies and translates the multiple disciplinary perspectives of your city. For example, decide how a visitor would get between each wing, and how could this be a metaphor for interconnectedness?

The Assignment:
•Write a 4- to 5-page proposal that justifies the multiple disciplines and perspectives you have chosen for your city’s new museum
