After reading about the paradoxes of globalization from an anthropological perspective this week, please consider the cartoon above and use the following guide questions in formulating your own ideas about what’s wrong or what’s right about globalization:

What are some of the arguments for and against the interpretation of the mass media as forms of cultural imperialism? Which viewpoint do you agree with, and why? Please use concrete examples to support your argument based on your own experiences of media (broadly defined, and not limited to TV). Also, how does the above cartoon support or go against your contentions? How do your ideas reflect or derail from the points raised in the reading, “Anthropology and the Paradoxes of Globalization?” You may need to use outside sources, as necessary and appropriate.
