Visual Aids: PowerPoint slides

Visual aids are ways to present information visually. In a document, a visual aid can be a figure, a table, or a photograph. During a speech, a visual aid can be a slide version of that same figure, table, or photograph. A visual aid in a speech can also be a handout, a scale model, a product sample, or a gesture. Using visual aids is particularly useful in business situations where abstract concepts benefit from illustrations. The most commonly used type of visual aid is the PowerPoint presentation. Students will write a one-page paper on PowerPoint presentations and modify the PowerPoint slide submitted below. In the first paragraph of the paper, students will explain why, where, and when visual aids should be used in business situations. In the second paragraph of the paper, students will present how to select the design elements of a slide, making sure to list and explain each of the four elements described in their textbook. In the concluding paragraph, students will explain how they have modified the slide submitted and how their modifications respect the design elements previously described. The students should upload their paper AND their modified slide.
