“Theory/theorist critique paper. Your task is to select a specific theory and theorist and write a critique paper. Your paper should briefly describe the theory and theorist, relay the goal of the theory/theorist, and provide a detailed critique of the theory.
A great critique paper articulates and justifies standards or criteria that are used to evaluate, and then carefully and thoughtfully apply the criteria. Remember that you are writing to a community of scholars. Although your opinion is important, the community is more interested in professional standards and criteria drawn from the field of communication theory rather than your personal and gut-level reaction.
I expect that you will cite sources and that your essay will be well written and follow proper form (APA or MLA). I expect to find explicit evaluation based upon articulately proposed and defended standards or criteria. The excellent paper will engage in synthesis and analysis, and will offer insight that goes beyond summarizing what scholars have written”
