The Hound of the Baskervilles

The entire paper should be about the story of The Hound of the Baskervilles. After the introduction include information about what the moors look like in the general story. Be sure the body of the paper talks about the story, The Hound of the Baskervilles. Most important source should be the Hound and every paragraph should be about the story. To start essay you can talk about how Watson effects the reader in the story, use examples from the Hound story. Use of symbols. How he pulled up to the spooky house and his description of the house. Use of certain narrator. Why is it significant that Watson tells the story? Is he a reliable narrator? Is he in love with Holmes? Does Holmes approach crime solving differently than Holmes? Say something about Doyle’s life, Maybe why he chose Watson to tell the story, Did Doyle have a friend like Watson? Is this why he chose Watson as the narrator? Discuss the character and the narrative technique, for example: Watson writes letters to Holmes. Discuss Watson finding Holmes on the hill of the moor. Why is Watson a person in the story? Why did Doyle use him as a narrator? These are some things you can use for the essay. You can talk about first-person narration and how it effects the reader in general. Give examples of why story is effective because of Watson. Use example: The guy on the hill (Holmes) How does Watson effect the reader as narrator? Was Doyle influenced by Poe? My instructor suggest to first set the mood, quote the book when Watson was driving up to the spooky house. Talk about how he uses first person narrator and quote critics on secondary source on first-person narration. Secondly, add mystery, did he leave the reader in the dark on purpose? Quote the man on the hill from Watson’s point of view. Third, the difference between average guy and Holmes(how Watson tells story, is Watson like the reader? Example: How Watson tries to solve mystery and how Holmes tries to solve mystery. Watson is a regular guy and helps the reader not feel so stupid. Conclusion can mention the fact that these kind of stories are still popular today. How Doyle uses Watson. How you can see a film through the eyes of the character. Example: CSI. Also, the outline can be Watson as a character then A,B,C Talk about him as a doctor, his love for Sherlock etc. Second, introduce Watson as the narrator, third Watson’s effect on reader, this is an example.
