The Great War – 1914-1918.

Numerous factors can be said to have contributed to (1) which warring camp or alliance ultimately won the war, and which lost, and (2) how individual countries within each camp fared in the war.
Discuss four (4) factors below that, as you see it, affected outcomes the most, being careful to label whether you are putting this in the first or second category, or maybe both. Be sure, however, to include in your answer two factors from each category.
1. Differing political systems: democracy vs. authoritarianism
2. The vastness and power of the British empire
3. the superiority of the British navy
4. The Russian contribution on the Eastern Front
5. The French contribution on the Western Front
6. The differing tactical adjustments of generals on each side (i.e. each side’s RMA)
7. The entry of the United States in 1917
8. The baneful ineptness of personalities in high political places
9. Atrocities against civilians

2. Identify and discuss the historical significance of an identification (ID) of your own choosing from chapter 11 of A HISTORY OF THE GREAT WAR.

3. Identify and discuss the historical significance of an identification (ID) of your own choosing, but dealing with the Middle East, from Chapter 12 of A HISTORY OF THE GREAT WAR.

4. Drawing on lecture and chapter 13 of A HISTORY OF THE GREAT WAR, explain (1) how the Great War caused the Great Depression, and (2) the extent to which (and the ways in which) the Great Depression made a second world war more likely.
