Statistics spss problems

1. Choose an interval-ratio level variable and produce its univariate statistics
with the Descriptives command (Analyze’Descriptive
Statistics†’Descriptives).
a. Under Options, select the mean, standard deviation, minimum and
maximum values, and the standard error of the mean (S.E. mean).
2. Select 10%, 25%, 50%, and 75% random samples and run the same

a. You may want to check the SPSS Demonstration on p. 231-234 to
learn how to get random samples in SPSS.
3. In your Word document, write a paragraph or two comparing the
descriptive statistics for your random samples with that of your full sample.
a. Of particular interest, note how the standard error of the mean
changes for each random sample. What does this indicate? (Hint:
look back at p. 226-227 and think about how the sample size affects
the standard error of the mean)

other words, how do we interpret these numbers?
b. Also, it shouldn’t be necessary to tell SPSS to select all cases (as
indicated in the text). Just run your Explore procedure as instructed.
