Order Description

This essay is about my experience as a girl scout and how it has influenced my life and changed me as a person. I’m talking mostly about my gold award. For my gold award, I set up a medical facility in a in between housing since they did not have one. From there, I was able to get involved with the LGBT Community and try to get more awareness for the kids that identify themselves as being LGBT. I have a cousin who is a lesbian and an uncle who is gay and I know they have felt like outsiders in their community. I set up a booth with the NYS Department of Health at the NY Gay Pride Parade and in total got more awareness for this community in terms of coming out. Here is what I have so far for my essay.

September 3rd, 2003, a day that will always be special to me. That day was the day that I vowed to help others, whether they are in need or not, for the next 12 years and beyond. September 3rd, 2003 was the day that I decided to become an active member of The Girl Scouts of New York. My passion has always been to give back to my community and to promote a better life for those around me. One might ask where this passion came about and it’s quite simple actually. My passion came from how much I heard my mom struggle. Growing up, I always heard stories from my mom about her growing up in America as an immigrant. Coming from Argentina to the United States at a very young age was difficult for my mom and her family. They had very little money and no jobs were available to them. My mom went to school not knowing any English in her dirty clothes and ragity hair and people would often bully her and call her a spick. Despite all this, my mom still was able to become very successful and really live out the American Dream. Hearing these stories from my mom, I knew that I did not want anyone else to go through what she went through and thats when I decided to become a girl scout.
Being a girl scout, I have participated in many community service activities and have even completed my Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards with the Gold Award being the highest honor you could possibly receive as a girl scout.
