Sociologists and other social scientists have clearly documented, both quantitatively and qualitatively, Americans fascination with violence which can be tied to individualism, violent sports, media violence, failed American dreams, and the death penalty.

Sociologists and other social scientists have clearly documented, both quantitatively and qualitatively, Americans fascination with violence which can be tied to individualism, violent sports, media violence, failed American dreams, and the death penalty. Americans typically see themselves as the good guys (and girls) who intervene in other countries to protect the innocent, create peace and promote human rights. Many people around the world see a violence prone culture when they see images of America and are bemused when Americans continue to insist that they are peace loving and non violent. Are we being hypocritical? Are internal contradictions like this inevitable in all cultures or are we simply unwillingly to take an honest look at ourselves or have we become so desensitized to the violence around us that we hardly notice it? Develop a narrative analysis of these issues that is logical, rational and factually grounded; provide examples from contemporary American society.
