Situation #1 — Organizational Consultation

A high school principal has sought the assistance of the school counselor and school psychologist assigned to the school. The principal has been the main administrator in the school for several years. The school has recently seen an influx of students, causing the addition of portable classrooms. The principal moved three veteran and two new faculty to these portables. The principal has noticed a distinct change in faculty unity. There is more gossip, more sarcasm, and more verbal altercations among the faculty. The principal has recently had a conference with each of the new faculty members. One cried and expressed a feeling of isolation at being “out there in the boondocks.” The other expressed a sense of abandonment in being assigned to the portable. The three veteran faculty members have been noticeably cooler and more distant to the principal. The principal is unsure how to bring harmony and unity back to the faculty. The principal asks the counselor and psychologist for assistance.
