Research Critique
elect three peer-reviewed research articles (one Survey, one Experiment, & one Content Analysis) that interest you. If you are not sure whether you selected the right articles, please check with me.
Use the following criteria to critique the articles. Provide examples and rationale for your answers. Submit the 3 articles in PDFs (no links) along with your critique and use citations (20 points each).
Introduction
- Is the problem statement identified clearly?
- Is the importance of the problem discussed?
- Are key research questions and variables identified?
Literature Review
- Is the literature review logical and clear to follow?
- Is the literature review balanced, presenting literature that supports and that differs from the researcher’s position?
- Are gaps in the literature and support for the necessity of the present study described?
- Are references current?
- Are research questions or hypotheses based on the theoretical framework?
- Are variables clearly defined and hypotheses testable?
Method
Sample
- Is the sample size adequate?
- Are the participants and sample methods described?
- Does the researcher indicate that approval was obtained from appropriate review boards to protect the rights of human subjects?
- Are potential threats to internal and external validity addressed? Did the researcher attempt to control them?
