You are required to write a real world critical case analysis (situation analysis) of the issues facing a growing SME. The case analysis should be done individually. The learning objectives for the case analysis are to develop conceptual and factual understanding of the external and internal environment and their impact on growing businesses and to determine the strengths and weaknesses of a firm and the core competence that can be built to establish a successful growing venture.

You are free to choose your firm and its industry. However, we encourage students to select an industry that would be suitable for employment based on their particular interests and primary area of concentration. For example, IT majors are encouraged to examine an IT firm. Science majors are pointed toward the technology firms. And HR majors towards the employment market. In the end, students make choices based on their personal interests and we would suggest choosing a growth-oriented firm.

How firm performance is defined is left to the student. The lecturer/tutor must approve all choices prior to the student beginning work. No two individuals are allowed to do the same firm within the same class, but they can do different firms within the same industry.
