Reflective Portfolio (health promotion skills)

Guidelines for Reflective Portfolio
Students are required to keep a regular record of their placement experiences in a Reflective Portfolio. Recordings should be entered daily and should cover key events, analysis of the events and reflection on what has been learned and on future learning needs.

The portfolio should commence with a brief introduction to the placement organisation (or unit, as appropriate) including a clear description of the students role while on placement. It is suggested, but not required, that students lay out their recordings in the following manner:

a) Events: This could include a range of different experiences, meetings, visits, incidents, the work you undertake, the work of the placement organisation and so on.
b) Reflections: This involves linking theory and practice. Here there is an expectation that students will reflect on the application of theory learned in modules to the work situation. It is expected that the link with theory is demonstrated and referenced appropriately within the assignment. Students will also reflect on their own performance and how they met their Learning Goals.
c) Personal Action Plan: This section gives students the opportunity to consider their learning needs following reflection. This might include;
• How could I have handled this situation differently?
• What do I need to know to continue with my work effectively?
• What support might I need to learn from these events?
