Project Analysis

Project Analysis

Introduction

The project shall be completed on September 25, 2015. I will have two servants to clear the land for a duration of 2 days. The servants shall burn the trash on the third day. They will then till the land for the remaining part of the week. The seeds will be planted in the next week. I will start watering the seeds immediately after planting. Watering shall stop after a week of planting since the heavy rains would have started. I will plant the early girl type of seeds which will take 6 weeks to grow. Pruning will be done every day for a duration of three weeks then stop once since the seedlings will have grown. At this time the tomato plants will be big enough to provide a canopy over the land and consequently help in preventing weeds from growing. The pruning will be done using rudimentary tools such as hoes. I will fix a scarecrow on the third week after planting so as to scare away tomato eating birds.

Tomatoes will be ready by the sixth week after preparation of the land. I will then harvest the tomatoes on the 17th of September. I will then store the tomatoes with the city storage facilities. The tomatoes will be stored for a week in the storage facility waiting transportation. The tomatoes will then be transported to the processing plant after the week of storage.

I had to mitigate the risk of my crops being eaten by birds. I would use scarecrows to scare the birds away. Task dependency enables easy and accurate drawing of the project network diagram. The factors that I took into account when determining the schedule/Gantt chart and network diagram were: the time that would be taken by the project, the nature of the project, he number of people doing the project and the challenges of the project (Hamilton, Byatt, & Hodgkinson, 2015). The challenges of the project were

  • Dependency on the weather patterns made it difficult to attain the right quality of tomatoes.
  • Protecting the farm against by passers was hard since it was a fruit crop

Conclusion

Project management enables the planning and executing of tasks in order to achieve intended objectives. Project management is therefore an important tool during implementation of projects and hence should not be overlooked (Project Management: A Systems Approach to Planning, Scheduling, and Controlling, 2013). The tomato growing project as for financial gains since I sold the tomatoes when they matured (Pminyc, 2015).
