Position Paper

Position Paper Assignment:
This paper, due 12/11, is designed as an opportunity for you to choose one of the topics we are covering in the course, research it further, provide an analysis, and present your (well-supported) position on the topic. Please choose from the following topics discussed in our coursework:
• Child abuse & neglect

You will choose a topic of interest to you and search for current (2007-2015) journal articles that discuss, analyze, and/or extend the topic. Please use at least 3-4 current additional resources (outside of course readings). Two of these must be scholarly resources, the remaining resources may be scholarly – or – from popular press (online or print), if the latter, be sure to note how they may reflect the dominant, prevailing, popular, or “layman” discourse on your topic – or – conversely, how they may reflect a divergent discourse.
Submit a 6-7 page double-spaced paper with the following components:
• Introduce the topic, briefly summarizing the perspectives of the authors of our course readings (& class discussion on topic, if you like)
• Extend the topic, after reading several articles, discuss what arguments/positions/new information you have discovered that support, extend and/or refute the perspectives of the authors. *If other C&T 4615 readings have also shaped your understanding & analysis, please refer to them; you will still need 3-4 outside resources.
• Discuss your personal beliefs/opinions/position on the topic (include examples if the topic connects in any way to your own experiences). Support and explain your position – what specific texts and experiences inform your position? How? If your position has changed on this issue, explain why.
• Please use APA format (6th edition), including writing in unbiased and People First Language, and proper citation of sources within paper and in reference page at end.
