The submission of a written proposal for your policy analysis paper 1 in week 6 (approximately 500 words).

The proposal should include:

1. clear identification of the actual policy name/title as per policy product document/s
launch/implementation date

2. outline the key issues and issue drivers that you have selected to analyse their problematisations

3. discuss the focus you are taking through which conventional and alternative analytical frameworks

4. identify how the literature you have already sourced underpins your analysis

5. reference list

Course Objectives
On completion of this course, students should be able to:
CO1. Investigate and analyse some of the major social policy orientations and assess the implications for policy design
CO2. Critically analyse the historical, international and changing contexts for policy action
CO3. Identify principles and processes of resource gathering, allocation and redistribution in the changing welfare state
CO4. Assess the impact of political economy on relationships between the public sector, third sector and citizens
CO5. Select and apply a framework for the analysis of Australian social policies

Course Content
The students will develop advanced skills in social policies analysis. Specifically, students will research and analyse social work and human service policies in relation to: policy cycles; policy planning, instruments, analysis, implementation and evaluation; resources allocation; equity and diversity; government and third sector relationships; global social policy and policy transfers, and policy activism.

Policy Practice is a follow on course from Australian Social Policy. This course enables you, the student, to develop an understanding of policy cycles, policy planning, policy analysis, policy implementation and evaluation. There will be a major emphasis on policy analysis and the under-lying agendas of particular policies. We will be looking at some of the major policies of the Australian government as well as global social policies. As a continuance of Australian Social Policy, we will also be looking at resource allocation, equity, and diversity from the Australian context. We will also look at the relationship between government and the third sector, the non-government organisations.
