Persuasive Message

Persuasive Message

Write a four (3) to five (4) paragraph form letter to potential customers on the range of services your business or organization can provide. (The business/organization and customer(s) may be “ real” or fictitious.)
The letter should include the following::
1.The structure of the letter follows the four-point persuasive outline, AIDA – Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action.
2.The content stresses a central theme, selling point, or appeal to the customer.
3.The content includes supportive information and details describing the range of services your business or organization can provide.
4.Write the letter with effective organization, coherence, and unity.
Follow writing principles of unity, coherence, and emphasis. Keep paragraphs short. Use concrete nouns and active verbs. Use specific language. Consider using bulleted lists to present information clearly.
The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:
•Use writing process strategies to develop brief business documents, such as routine messages, bad news messages, and persuasive/sales messages.
•Organize ideas logically by using transitional words, phrases, and sentences.
•Support ideas or claims in body paragraphs with clear details, examples, and explanations.
•Use sentence variety and effective word choice in written communication.
•Write clearly and concisely using proper writing mechanics.
This week you will participate in the single Week 4 discussion after reading Chapter 9 on “Revising Written Messages.”   Be sure to read the chapter before responding so that your initial post is informed by the reading (and specific enough to demonstrate it).  There is also a Chapter 9 “Quiz Bowl” this week to test concepts explained in the chapter.  As a reminder, quiz bowls can be found in the “Additional Resources” link within each week.  There is only one discussion this week so that you can focus on writing rough drafts for two short assignments that you will be working on this week and next.

The second assignment involves another brief persuasive message, this time a 3-4 paragraph letter to potential customers on the range of services your business or organization can provide. (Ignore the directions that say the paragraph should be 4-5 paragraphs.  I’m shortening it a bit to take pity on you for working on two assignments at once. Keep it to ONE page.)  You can invent your own business or use a business you currently work for or would like to work for.  I encourage you to use colorful fonts or graphics or anything else that would make your letter stand out (but not be obnoxious) to potential clients.  Remember that both of these are just rough drafts.  Don’t feel overwhelmed as each is no more than a full-page long.  Please just be sure that you review the guidelines for each and read/review the chapters that cover bad news and persuasive messages (which should have been read for last week).
