Org602-Organizational Studies II (Distinguishing Moderation from Mediation Conceptually)

Module 1 – SLP
Distinguishing Moderation from Mediation Conceptually

For the Session Long Project in this course, you will build upon the work you began with your ORG601 SLP to prepare a proposal for a possible research study in your chosen subfield in business administration. You will explore the academic research and research needs in your area of interest, identify various sub-issues that may assist you in clearly identifying a researchable study, and think about how to design the study and make preparations for later continuation of the study. The assignment for each module is designed to help you create the building blocks of a research proposal to be submitted at the end of the session for your Module 5 SLP Assignment.

In this first ORG602 module, please be sure you have read all of the required background readings, then write a narrative paper in which you:

Develop theoretical and empirical justification and support for inclusion of a moderator or mediator variable in a created hypothesis of interest.
SLP Assignment Expectations

In your ORG601 ORG Studies I class you developed research questions and hypotheses. List the one primary research question and one hypothesis related to it that you created in ORG 601 Module 5 and the three (3) to four (4) peer-reviewed, high-quality, theoretical or empirical journal articles that you found to support the importance of and need for this research question and its related hypothesis.
Briefly discuss the feedback your ORG601 professor provided for your Module 5 SLP assignment.
How would you change your primary research question, its related hypotheses, or the articles you chose (if needed) based on your professor’s feedback? Make those changes for this ORG602, module 1 SLP assignment.
Now argue for and support adding one moderating OR one mediating variable to your hypothesis. As part of building your support for including this mediator or moderator explain why it needs to be tested. You could, for example, base your inclusion of this moderator or mediator on recommendations for future research in your supporting articles or you could base its inclusion on your application of heuristics. Keep in mind that a research proposal tells a story
As part of your supporting argument explain why the variable should be considered a moderator rather than a mediator or vice versa.
Create a hypothesis that represents the moderated or mediated relationship between your independent and dependent variables.
Consider whether there are any moderator or mediator variables in the existing academic research literature concerned with your hypotheses that you have decided not to include in your own hypothesis. Discuss why you did not consider them essential or relevant in your model.
