Nutrition Education Piece

For this project, you will create a one-page nutrition handout/flyer. The topic is up to you, but must be nutrition related. Flyer Creation Process

1. Choose Your Audience Choose your audience. You can choose whichever audience you would like, mothers,

elementary school kids, retired men. Be sure to be specific enough that the handout is targeted. “Adults 18- 49” is NOT specific enough.

2. Choose Your Topic With your audience in mind, choose a nutrition-related topic that is applicable to the nutritional needs/concerns of the audience.

3. Write the Content With information from the research, your topic and audience, write the text. You will want around 250 words. It should be around a page of text, but with bullets, spaces etc.

4. Design the Flyer With the content now written, design a one-page flyer (no tri-fold brochures).

Guidelines

1. Your assignment must include a reflection page (information/requirements below), the completed self-assessment and the last page should be the flyer.

2. Word count for the flyer should be around 250-300 words.

3. Brochure must be written at a 5 th grade reading level or lower (5.9 or lower).

Reflection Guidelines As well as a one-page flyer, you must also include a one-page reflection of the process.

The first paragraph of the reflection should include your target audience for the brochure and why you chose your topic for that audience. Also include which design principles you used as you created the flyer.

The second paragraph should include your experience with the process of writing for a low reading-grade level using plain language principles, as well as the design process. Include your final reading grade level in this paragraph. Was it easy? Was it hard? What made it difficult, if it was?

The third paragraph should include your process with the self-assessment. What did you learn through the process of self-assessment? What did you end up changing on your flyer? Lastly, briefly discuss what you learned from the entire process. Was this the first time you created a flyer or nutrition education piece?

What did you learn? If it wasn’t your first time, was there something new you learned during this process that you did not know before?

The reflection paper should be a full page of text, 12-point serif font (Times New Roman, etc.), single spaced. Text should not go onto a second page.
