Choose a POPULATION  (child, adolescent, pregnant woman, adult or older adult) and describe 3 abnormal assessment findings indicating a nutritional problem.  What additional questions should the nurse ask based on these findings?  What are the Healthy People 2020 Goals for this population?  How can the nurse promote health and adequate nutrition based on this problem? Does the nutritional problem have any legal or ethical implications?

Discuss incidences where a comprehensive health history and physical exam is appropriate versus a focused health history and focused physical exam.  Which aspects of the comprehensive health history and physical exam are you most comfortable with and which will require more practice?  How can Caring and Modeling and Role Modeling be implemented during an interview and assessment?

a) Consider your own personal values and beliefs personally held about nursing. How do your personal values and beliefs impact your nursing practice when working with patients, family members, colleagues, physicians, staff, and others you may come in contact with during your typical shift? Have they changed since you began nursing school or graduated from school?
b)  Florence Nightingale discussed ten canons of her theory:
1.    Ventilation and warming
2.    Light and noise
3.    Cleanliness of the area
4.    Health of houses
5.    Bed and bedding
6.    Personal cleanliness
7.    Variety
8.    Offering hope and advice
9.    Food
10.    Observation
Choose at least three of these canons and discuss how these apply in the your work or the current health care environment today.

a.    How do you see Parson’s sick role theory impacting a person’s health and illness behavior? When you are taking care of a patient that “appears” to not want to get better or will not take the necessary steps towards a healthier lifestyle, such as a COPD patient that continues to smoke, for example, how do you as a nurse deal with this conflict? What type of care will you give this patient? You can use any example. It does not have to be the COPD example.
b.    In Dr. Pape’s video on Systems Theories, she discusses the fact that systems theories are a good way to approach the care of an individual or group in a complete or holistic way.  In addition, this allows health care disciplines or multidisciplines to work together for the good of the individual/group creating coherence among the disciplines.  Give an example of a situation in which systems theories has influenced a multidisciplinary approach in the area where you work?
