Multiple Sclerosis Coalition.

Many symptoms factor-Multiple Sclerosis (MS). These symptoms include vision loss, pain, fatigue and impaired coordination. Nonetheless, these symptoms vary from one person to the other when it comes to severity. The duration can also vary from person to person. It is normal to find some people very free f these symptoms in most of their lives. It is also a daily expectation of finding some people severely affected by chronic symptoms of MS, and these symptoms may never go away (Finn, 2015). MS causes suffering to patients and the entire community at large. Consequently, MS collaboration brings together efforts that are geared towards fighting the condition together to ensure that profitability and productivity in the today society are achieved. Fighting this condition may not be achievable by incorporating disinterested parties to the race. It is vital for stakeholders to be aware of the mission, vision and objective of developing such a coalition. Consequently, being the researcher on the mentioned topic, I decide use this paper launching the investigations on the role of MS coalition members in the fight against MS. The paper will particularly look at the efforts and support granted to patients affected by the condition. It will also discuss any efforts to treat and ultimately cure MS (‘Frontiers in Multiple Sclerosis’, 1998).

Introduction

The first symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis begin to show in a person at the ages of twenty to forty. According to research on the condition, it is determined that the symptoms get better. However, they come back (‘Complex Symptoms and Mobility in Multiple Sclerosis’, 2014). It is in their nature to come and disappear while others linger depending on the patient. There are some very common characteristics or symptoms of the condition. These symptoms include unusual sensation. It is heard more often than not people with MS complaining of sharp sensations. Sometimes they are affected by numbness, itching, burning or tearing pains. It is determined that half of the people affected with the condition suffer from these symptoms. However, the good news is that these symptoms are manageable (Halper, 2008). Another common symptom is the bladder problems. Statistically tested, it is determined that 8 in every ten people are affected by bladder issues. These questions may be treated under different conditions. With MS, a person may need to pee often, urgently, or urine troubles at night and others are affected by difficulties when it comes to emptying their bladders thoroughly. At times, these problems are intertwined with bowel problems, especially constipation. Another common problem is having trouble walking (Graves et al., 2014). MS is known to cause muscle weakness or spasms. These spasms make it harder to walk. Balance problems, numb feet, and fatigue are also often detected and can make walking very difficult. Other symptoms include dizziness where the patients will often not have vertigo. This is to mean that they will often feel like things are spinning around. Fatigue will be overwhelming. Statistically proven, eight in ten people affected by the condition will always feel exhausted. The fatigue is detected clearly in the afternoons. The person affected suffers from weak muscles, slow thinking, or sleepiness. And in most cases, the condition has any direct or indirect proportions to the amount of work a person does. To gain a deeper understanding of MS coalition, it is important to make note of the four types of Multiple Sclerosis (Alix, 2008). The four types include relapsing-remitting, primary progressive, secondary progressive, and progressive-relapsing. Exacerbations characterise the condition. These exacerbations directly result in the symptoms discussed above (Heesen, 2010). MS in remission means that the person has the symptoms but cannot know since his life is normal. Treatment of the condition can help in slowing the progression and control of many of the symptoms. In order to better the society and enhance safety from the condition, certain members came into a taskforce that aims to reduce MS and make as many people free from the condition (‘Managing Multiple Sclerosis: Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers Abstracts’, 1998). Consequently, this paper seeks to investigate the role of the coalition members in the fight against MS, particularly support for MS patients in their daily lives. It also seeks to afore-note research to treat and ultimately cure MS (‘Managing Multiple Sclerosis: Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers Abstracts’, 1998).

STRUCTURE OF THE PAPER

This introduction will comprise of all the elements of research. Within the introduction, there will be an introductory part that introduces the paper. This section will also add other components of the research such as the literature review, methodology, results and discussion.

Research question

To what extent is each of the three individual MS Coalition member organizations, which are involved in both research and service, oriented toward these activities and is this orientation changing – and, if so, how?
