Why Mozambique? There are no known bauxite deposits in Mozambique. The other key resource, electrical power, will have to be imported at first. There is the potential for hydro-electric power generation on the Zambesi river, but that seems to be well into the future. There is a potential for exporting through the Maputu port facility, but very extensive development will be required. Lastly, there is certainly cheap labour available in Mozambique, but it is untrained and uneducated- and process industries are capital intensive, not labour intensive. And there are certainly no important potential customers for aluminum in the country. So what makes Mozambique an attractive site for the project?
