Loss, Trauma, & resilience (Boss, 2006), and watch the PBS Frontline documentary “A Soldier’s Heart” http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/heart/view/ on PBS-On-line

review Chapters 2 and 3 in Loss, Trauma, & Resilience (Boss, 2006), and watch the PBS Frontline documentary “A Soldier’s Heart” http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/heart/view/ on PBS-On-line.

In this discussion, I want you to discuss linkages you see between the assigned readings (stated above) and their application to the soldiers and families you meet in the documentary. Recall that Pauline Boss argues that traumatic experiences can result in ambiguous loss and PTSD, both of which affect military personnel and their families. Boss and the authors of Chapter 17 (in Families & Change) suggest that intervention with families — not just individuals – may be the best course for helping persons who have experienced war-related trauma.

I provide questions below to help you fully examine linkages between trauma, ambiguous loss, and PTSD among military personnel and their families.
•    Boss articulates that although there is an association between PTSD and ambiguous loss, the two are different. In what way are they different and alike? What evidence do you see in the documentary that someone is experiencing PTSD, ambiguous loss, or both of these?
•    In the documentary, how is war-related trauma affecting the soldiers and their families? What ambiguous losses are, spouses, children, and soldiers experiencing?
•    Are individuals and families featured in the documentary using resources to help them to be resilient? If so, what are these?
•    What resources do you think are needed to help military personnel and their families to deal effectively with the trauma and they are experiencing? Based on your readings and the information in the documentary, what would you suggest for best helping these families?

Remember to cite the Frontline program “A Soldier’s Heart” and all other referenced materials (in APA) at the end of your post.
