The essay will need to be fully referenced in the text, citations should be properly embedded and there should be a reference list of no less than eight references, with a maximum of two websites. It is to be an essay which develops a clear argument, is based on evidence and structured effectively.
In this context, an essay is a piece of continuous writing which examines a specific topic and/or answers a particular question. It is permissible to use headings sparingly within an essay to indicate separate elements of the argument, but these do not take the place of good linkages. The micro-skills which are being developed through this unit should be reflected in the writing of the essay. These will include the use of a variety of sentence forms, the construction of elegant paragraphs, the use of correct grammar and punctuation, and evidence of comprehension and evaluation of the sources used.
