Introduction to arabic and muslim communities

Keeping in the mind the readings and the film for this unit, from Said to Grosfoguel, and the film Battle of Algiers, discuss what surprised you most about the interaction of the West with the Arab and Muslim world, what resonated with you most from what you read and/or saw, and why you think that might be the case? You can discuss anything from how Arabs and Muslims have been represented, how the histories of the finding of the “New World” coincided with the expulsion of Muslims and Jews from Spain, colonization and foreign policy of the West in the East.
