identify the theme of "Cupid and Psyche"

For this assignment you will read a primary source about a Greek figure. You will then write a 3-4 page essay using MLA formatting: this means, you must reach the bottom of the third page to earn complete credit. Aside from the primary source, you may not use outside sources in this paper. The paper itself must have at least five paragraphs: an introduction paragraph, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph—it may, however, have more than five paragraphs. After reading your story, you will write an interpretive thesis statement that identifies the theme of the story and support your opinion with evidence taken from the story. 1.Read the following myths in Edith Hamilton’s Mythology: a.”Cupid and Psyche” (121-34) b.”Orpheus and Eurydice” (138-42) c.”Phaeton” (180-84) 1.Choose one of the three stories to write on. Identify the theme of the story and write a thesis like this: The theme of [story name] is _______________. 2.Find three to five pieces of evidence from the story that support your theme. Use these points to write three to five body paragraphs (one piece of evidence per paragraph), applying the TIES paragraph structure shown in the Body Paragraphs Handout under “June 15-21”. 3.Write an Introduction Paragraph that includes the name of the myth, a brief summary of the plot, and your thesis statement (the last sentence of the Introduction paragraph). 4.Write a Conclusion Paragraph that restates your thesis in new words, reviews your main points, and explains why understanding this theme is important. Do not add new information to the conclusion. 5.Employ proper MLA citation methods, including in-text citation and a Works Cited page (the WC page does not count in your page length). Also use quotation marks and paraphrasing appropriately, as each of these elements will be calculated in the final paper grade. Additional Policies •Essays must be at least 3 pages in length. This means the essay must reach the very bottom of the third page to earn credit. The Works Cited page does not count in the page length (it should be on a separate page). If the essay does not reach the bottom of the third page, it will not pass. •Essays must use proper MLA citation forms. Essays that do not use proper MLA citation will not pass. •Essays must be written with MLA formatting: 12 point Times New Roman, double spaced, one inch margins, proper heading, title, and page numbers, etc. Essays that do not meet this requirement will receive a grade deduction. •Essays must include proper grammar and mechanics. Essays are marked down by one point for each grammatical error present. •Essays must be written in third person, formal academic English. You may not use the words you, your, you’re, I, me, my, mine, we, our, ours, us in your final paper. Each time you use these words, one point is deducted. •Late essays are not accepted. Period.
