The role of the HR professional has changed continually since its emergence in response to the changing requirements of organisations (both internal and external).

Review the following article by Sheehan and De Cieri (2012), and critique the current role of the HR professional in Australia.

In examining the current roles of the HR professional, do you think they reflect the projections made by Sheehan and De Cieri (2012)? In what areas do they correspond or differ? Why do you think this might be?

Rationale
During the course of this subject you will be examining a number of different ideas on human resource management and the impact these have on employees in the workplace. Much of what you read about will be familiar to you as you have seen it going on around you in the workplace, or been part of such interactions yourself. However, you need to think critically about what you are reading and seeing. Do you agree with what is being proposed? Do you see something different happening in your workplace? Why might differences in theory and practice exist?

This assignment will assist you in preparing for Assignment 2, in which you are asked to examine the state of HR in Australia, as it touches upon issues which affect how HRM is perceived and practiced in Australia. It would be a good idea to look ahead at Assignment 2 as you prepare this assignment.
