Assessment Brief: Document Control and Management in Projects operations

You are required to write a 2000 word report that constitutes advice to a Project Director relating to a specific topic: Document Control and Management in Projects. The context of the report is that you are a management consultant assisting a company review its project operations. Specifically, you are looking at the importance of documentation and document control and how document management can help the project management office run better operations. The Project Director of the firm has requested that you provide a best practice report to her on how her project managers can better produce, utilise and control project documents. Your report will provide her with guidance on what constitutes good documentation practice.

To undertake this assessment, you will need to conduct in-depth research and subsequently report on the following items. You will be using all of the available sources of information, but need to have at least ten (10) references of which at least five (5) must be from textbooks or journals. The remaining references can be from professional associations, web sites (appropriately referenced) and even project manager interviews (if viable). You are answering the following questions:

   them, who should change them, who should archive them, how, etc)? (500 words)
4. What is meant by document control and how is it implemented in projects? (300 words)
5. What are the world’s best standards in document control, what software exists to manage documents and what are the practitioner views of these technical means of managing documents? (500 words)
6. What are your recommendations to the Project Director on how best to start enhancing document control? (200 words)
