Pick a topic or come up with a topic, write a two page (typed, single spaced) summary of the geology of
an area or an event that took place (with geological significance. i.e. earthquake, landslide, volcanic
P eruption, tsunami…). Be sure to use terms and concepts we learned or will learn about in class (rocks
and minerals found there, age of the rocks and minerals in that area, data from the area…).
This should be written/summarized in your own words, DO NOT PLAGIARIZE someone else’s work!
Plagiarism is the “wrongful appropriation ” and “stealing and publication ” of
another author’s “language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions ” and the
representation of them as one’s own original work. Plagiarism is considered
academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics. It is subject to sanctions
like penalties, suspension, and even expulsion. Recently, cases of ‘extreme
plagiarism’ have been identified in academia. Plagiarism is not a crime per se but

can constitute copyright infringement.
