1.  (50 points)

Make yourself familiar with two individuals:   W. Edwards Deming and Peter Drucker.  In the 1950s and 1960s, these two men were most influential in the emerging field of management.  Dr. Drucker has even been called the “Father of Modern Management.”  Sadly, modern curricula on management, in my opinion, fail to give these men their proper due.  Between them, these men have written over 100 books on management.  I do not expect you to read any of their writings, but I expect you to do more than to read their respective Wikipedia entries.

When you believe you are sufficiently familiar with these two men, write a summary of your impressions of their views on leadership and management in more than 2000 words.

2.  (50 points)

This course, Management 515, is an overview course, and does not go into any great detail in any subject area.  Nonetheless, you have been and will be by the end of the course, introduced to many theories and models, albeit, some are more useful than others.  Your assignment is to explain how these theories and models have helped you, or not if that is the case, to understand how you, your colleagues, or your bosses have acted or reacted in a given situation; or why you believe one or more events that you have observed have resulted in good or bad outcomes.  For example, you might explain that you believe that one colleague is a Type X employee, but management is treating him like a Type Y and the consequences are …
