Explain what the report is and what the histogram represents. Annotate the variables that are being represented in the histogram and whether they are nominal, ordinal or interval/ratio variables

The following are instructions for writing six separate paragraphs on various topics related to research and analysis in Homeland Security. Each paragraph should be between 250 and 300 words and follow the prompt that gives specific instructions. When a prompt refers to a specific chapter, it will come from the following book: Brians, C.L., Willnat, L., Manheim, J., & Rich, R. (2011). Empirical political analysis: Quantitative and qualitative research methods (8th ed.). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Pearson. Some paragraphs require you to use other resources and the links are clearly designated to access the resources. Cite any references used following the paragraph in which it was used and not all together on a reference page. Evaluating Surveys Surveys are common and often are effective techniques for conducting homeland security research because practitioners within the homeland security architecture are often spread over great distances. Go to the Ashford University Online Library (http://library.ashford.edu/index.aspx) and identify a survey used in a homeland securityrelated article. Post an APA citation for the article you discovered that utilizes a survey to illuminate opinions or research on homeland security. Describe how the survey was designed, how the questions were constructed, and how the results were tabulated. Then state, in your opinion, if there are any biases in the surveyâs questions or collection methods. Your paragraph should be at least 250300 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Visualizing Data Oftentimes, the way data is visualized and presented is more influential than the research itself. To demonstrate and evaluate this theory, you will watch a visualization of data. Visit and watch the presentations by Dr. Hans Rosling entitled Hans Rosling shows the best stats youâve ever seen. Rosling, H. (Presenter). (2006). Hans Rosling shows the best stats youâve ever seen. Retrieved from http://www.ted.com/talks/hans_rosling_shows_the_best_stats_you_ve_ever_seen.html Hans Rosling describes how international data trends on health can affect the security of nations. Identify at least two types of charts and tables that Dr. Hans Rosling uses to illustrate his data, and answer the following questions: ⢠Do Dr. Roslingâs research findings become more or less clear with the use of his visualization techniques? ⢠What are some potential weaknesses you find with using Dr. Roslingâs visualization techniques? Your paragraph should be at least 250300 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Homeland Security Statistics Examine the role of statistics in homeland security research using the Department of Homeland Securityâs website. Search for and identify a homeland security report that utilizes a frequency distribution to create a histogram. Explain what the report is and what the histogram represents. Annotate the variables that are being represented in the histogram and whether they are nominal, ordinal or interval/ratio variables. Provide a citation to the data report that you chose from the DHS website. Support your thoughts and ideas with appropriate resources. Your paragraph should be at least 250300 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Correlation and Association In Chapter 17 of the course text the authors discuss two coefficients: Association and Correlation. Explain what each of these terms mean in statistical analysis. Describe how these two coefficients differ. Conclude by stating which coefficient you believe is most useful in describing relationships between research variables. Your paragraph should be at least 250300 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Focus Groups in Homeland Security Preparation Focus groups are a commonly used qualitative research tool for examining homeland security research issues. Chapter 20 of the textbook discusses several steps that must be addressed in the conduct of a focus group. The article Developing a Disaster Preparedness Campaign Targeting LowIncome Latino Immigrants: Focus Group Results for Project PREP utilizes focus groups to conduct research. Explain how focus group participants were recruited, how the focus group data was collected, and how the results were analyzed. Assess whether you believe if, and where, any bias may have been recorded in this process. Also address whether you think the results of these samples were representative of the Latino population. Your paragraph should be at least 250300 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Elite Interviews Chapter 21 of the course text discusses the interviewing of elites as a qualitative research technique. However, there are many that challenge the notion of elite interviewing as a valid and reliable research technique. Identify at least two reasons that elite interviewing may not be a sound qualitative research technique in homeland security research. Hypothesize why this technique may be particularly weak in the modern homeland security environment. Your paragraph should be at least 250300 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references.
