former
Yugoslavia;

Northern

Xinjiang;

southern

or

and

Students
may
also
investigate
cultural
and
religious
conflicts
surrounding
gender,
human
rights
and
identity
issues
within
or
between
societies.

The
essay
should
analyse
the
historical
and
contemporary
conditions
underlying
the
conflict,
identify
its
main
causes
or
origins
to
form
the
thesis
of
the
paper,
and
make
an
informed
judgement
about
its
future
trajectory
(if
a
current
issue).
Students
must
consult
the
Course

suitability
of
their
chosen
topic.
