Europe timeline

Order Description

A) Timeline of Europe: As a background to the shared history of Europe you should familiarize yourself with the major events which formed the social, economic and political frameworks of emerging Europe. To graph an outline of chronology you should plot a simple Timeline of Europe which includes the following events:
•Age of Enlightenment * (incl. persons such as Sir Isaac Newton, Voltaire, encyclopedists, Rousseau, Kant)
• French Revolution*
• Rise and Fall of Napoleon 1
• End of the Holy Roman Empire

• Industrial Revolution (England +) *
• Gt. Reform Bill (Britain)
• 1848 Revolutions
• First publication of Communist Manifesto *
• Gt. Exhibitions (Britain and France)
• Unification of Italy
• Unification of Germany
• Triple Alliance
• Entente Cordiale – Triple Entente
• Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria
• WW1
• Russian Revolutions (Liberal /Bolshevik) *
• Treaty of Versailles *
• Russian Civil War
• Rise of Mussolini *
• Wall Street Crash and Depression
• Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany
• Anschluss / Munich Conference/ German invasion of Poland
• WW2
• USA enters war
• End of war in Europe
• End of war in Pacific
• Berlin Airlift
• Division of Federal German Republic / German Democratic Republic *
• Building of the Berlin Wall /Fall of the Wall / Unification of Germany
• Creation of European Coal and Steel Community
• Formation of EU / Treaty of Rome/ Treaty of Maastricht/ Treaty of Lisbon
• Formation of EMU (European Monetary Union)
• Collapse of the Soviet Union *

Note: Some of these events will have occurred in a specific year, others will cover a span of years. Not all of these are listed in exact order. Many overlap. Consider how you might best represent these overlaps (e.g. two parallel timelines one for discreet dates i.e. assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and one for spanned year events i.e. industrial revolution) There are plenty of timeline sources online. Be sure to use reliable sources. There are also timelines in the Western Civilization texts on reserve in the library. The Kerr text will also be a good resource for this. I suggest you use three different sources to “triangulate” or check your dates. Give a brief annotation (i.e. 1-4 lines for clarification) for the asterisked events, (e.g. for the French Revolution you may wish to note that this marked the end of feudal monarchy in France and initiated the application of Enlightenment ideas in European societies.) Points will be given for completeness of assignment, clarity, neatness and accuracy. Give a bibliography of sources used.
