Discuss the scenario in terms of the types of power that have the potential to influence the relationships between the Head Coach and his players and staff.

Task Two: Social implications
Within the Marlin’s scenario, the Head Coach Rob Johnston has been given the authority to “hire and fire” coaching staff, sports science/medicine consultants as well as players. Discuss the scenario in terms of the types of power that have the potential to influence the relationships between the Head Coach and his players and staff.
Some of the power types include:
• Legitimate (positional) power
• Expert power
• Informational power (persuasion)
• Reward power
• Coercive power
• Referent power
• Nutrient power (empowerment)
Select three power bases and discuss in terms of the scenario and identify some strategies a coach could use to overcome the consequences of power (“obtaining, maintaining and advancing social power”) within the sporting environment. Note: the reference to “Coaches’ Power” associated with assessment task four is a good starting point. Two more papers on power in coaching can be located in the assessment section for this assignment.  Note: The Potrac article is in Chapter 13 of the book
