Criminal Law and O.J. Simpson

Criminal Law and O.J. Simpson

In 1995, O.J. Simpson was acquitted of the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her companion, Ronald Goldman, in a highly publicized trial that came to be known as the “Trial of the Century.” Several public figures became, and remain, well known as a result of this trial, including Judge Lance Ito, Johnnie Cochran, Robert Kardashian, Janet Reno, Brian “Kato” Kaelin, and Detective Mark Fuhrman, among others. Interestingly, although Simpson was ultimately acquitted of the criminal charges, he was later found to be civilly liable for wrongful death. Because of the civil verdict, the victims’ families were able to stop Simpson from being able to get his biography If I Did It published. The families gained publishing rights so that Simpson could not profit from the book, and subsequently released it as Simpson’s confession.
