Create an archive of primary research which gives insights into the programme’s place in the media landscape of its day.

Project: Researching a British television programme The objective of this assessment is to produce detailed account of a UK television programme which places it in its industrial and social context. The assessment consists of two parts. 1) Create an archive of primary research which gives insights into the programme’s place in the media landscape of its day. For this part you need to identify online material which give the reader a sense of a) what the programme was b) how it was received at the time c) what significance it had as part of the developing British television industry. 2) Produce a critical analysis of your archive (1400 words). The aim of this analysis is to place your primary research into a relevant academic context by relating it to (i) relevant lecture topics and (ii) associated academic readings from the module as appropriate. Potential subjects to be addressed here include: a) the specific industrial and regulatory context in which it emerged; academic debates relating to the programme’s genre and relevance to its audience b) your own analysis of its meanings and formal qualities; c) how the programme has been retrospectively ‘read’, both by media academics and fans
